Survivor Circle Grant Application Background

Funding Objectives

The Survivor Circle Grant is a funding initiative that provides gifts of financial support to cancer support organizations in the state the American Society for Radiation Oncology holds it annual scientific meeting.

The emphasis of this initiative is to provide cancer support organizations with the funding to assist in continuing, growing or creating programs to help cancer patients, cancer survivors and their families from diagnosis through survivorship. A dedicated effort to reach all demographics of cancer patients in the city/state where the organization is located will be a key component considered in the review process. An emphasis in helping patients receiving radiation therapy is preferred, but not required.

Two grants of up to $12,500 each will be awarded.

Funding Guidelines

The following items are examples of what may be funded via this RFP process:

  • Local transportation and other support needs, such as child care for family members of a patient undergoing treatment.
  • Supplies necessary for cancer support group meetings (brochures, videos, hand-outs).
  • Welcome kits for new patients/families seeking assistance from the support organization.
  • Financial assistance to patients seeking help from support organization for items such as transportation to and from treatment and co-payments.
  • Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for funding, applicants must have a demonstrated commitment to providing support and education to cancer patients, cancer survivors, caregivers and family across a broad demographic in the city/state in which they are located.

Applicants must be located in and serve the population in the state in which ASTRO is holding its annual scientific meeting. (Dates and locations are available on the ASTRO website.) The Survivor Circle Grant applications are reviewed and approved by members of the ASTRO Board of Directors. The grant money will be awarded during the ASTRO Annual Meeting.
